Why I chose Greenville: My reason for choosing to complete my residency at GHS was really multi-factorial. There is of course, the location. Greenville is really an amazing city. I actually completed my undergraduate education at Furman University and absolutely fell in love with Greenville and Upstate SC as a whole. Having grown up in Jacksonville, FL and living in Tampa, FL for 4 years during medical school, my wife and I knew it was time to head back to the Carolinas. We were tired of the constantly hot weather, flat land, and wanted to be closer to family (most of our families have moved into the Carolinas and Virginia in recent years). I also liked the fact that GHS has a medical school on campus. I came into residency interested in medical education and wanted a program where I would have the opportunity to teach medical students in the hospital. As I looked at other programs in the Carolinas, I found GHS to be the best fit for me. The quality of the residents here and their genuine friendship and camaraderie was unlike anything I saw on the interview trail. Residents here are happy and engaged in their work. They work hard together and laugh a lot together — it’s a great balance.
Why I chose Greenville: I had the opportunity to attend college in Greenville, SC and subsequently fell in love with the city and the people. During medical school and the interview process, I had the opportunity to meet and work with the GHS residents and staff. I knew that this was the program and the city that was the best fit for me.
Why I chose Greenville: I was drawn to GHS because of the family/collegial atmosphere of the residents within the program. On my interview day we rounded with the teams for a little while. There was a great relationship between the residents and attendings who were not only willing to teach but also enthusiastic. The curriculum appeared to be well-rounded and the volume of patients in the hospital was definitely ample for excellent teaching cases. Seeing a program that was academically strong, growing, well-rounded and had residents who were excited to be there really drew me to GHS. Of course, the added free Chick Fila for 3 years and amazing outdoor adventures Greenville has to offer just sealed the deal!
Why I chose Greenville: I grew up in the small town of Waynesboro, GA, which is also known as the “Bird Dog Capital of the World.” I love living in rural Georgia and plan to return to practice traditional medicine as an outpatient doctor who also takes care of patients in the hospital. I chose to do my residency at GHS because I really appreciated the camaraderie amongst the residents, the appropriate balance between autonomy and supervision provided by the attendings, as well as the awesome facilities that GHS has to offer.
Why I chose Greenville: Deciding to come to Greenville was an easy choice once I looked at the program, saw the area, and met the residents I would be working with for the next three years. I have never experienced a more genuine, dedicated group of residents whose focus is on patient care and a teamwork approach to medicine.
Why I chose Greenville: I have lived most of my life within the state of South Carolina but grew up primarily in the Low Country just outside of Charleston. When I was looking for a residency program that best suited my goals as an individual and as a growing physician, my greatest focus revolved around a combination of the people I would be working with and the community where I would live. Both are essential in developing a healthy and successful career in the field of medicine. Your colleagues become your family, your support system, and your inspiration for constantly learning and improving your skills as a clinician. The community becomes a larger entity that you are both a part of and that also becomes a part of you. It was these things that drew me to Greenville when I was applying for residency. Those qualities are a fundamental component of why I have been so satisfied with my experience. Greenville is a thriving and vibrant community with its own unique personality. Likewise, the Greenville Health System provides more than just a good education and good training. It also provides a model for attracting and shaping good people and good members of the community.
Why I chose Greenville: I was impressed by the quality of attending physicians and the strong emphasis they place on teaching rounds. Not only did this program have strong didactics, but it fosters a solid academic environment amongst attendings, residents and students. I was also drawn by the strong sense of camaraderie amongst the residents. Not only does this make the days enjoyable, but it promotes a team-based environment and opportunites for shared learning. I was looking for a program that not only placed a strong emphasis on academics, but one that was down-to-earth and approachable. I feel confident that I can maximize my potential through GHS.
Why I chose Greenville: Greenville was my top choice for residency. I was very impressed with the amount of exposure to inpatient medicine at such an early start in residency while having abundant opportunities for interest driven rotations. I also wanted to train at a place that felt like home. Downtown Greenville was too good to pass up with its beautiful Falls Park, numerous running trails and downtown restaurants.
Why I chose Greenville: I remember being pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome I received on my interview day at GHS. Everyone I met seemed genuinely excited to be a part of the Greenville Health System. One year into the program, I realized that I made the right choice by choosing to be a part of this amazing program. The staff and faculty here are truly invested in our education and well-being, while the residents share great camaraderie. Greenville is one of the hidden gems in that it has so much to offer — be it the gorgeous downtown, the beautiful trails and getaways, the low cost of living, the beautiful seasons, or the endearing people. I really look forward to the next two years at GHS, and to making some great memories.
Why I chose Greenville: Greenville has it all! I was fortunate to rotate at this program as a medical student. The thing that impressed me the most was how the residents looked out for each other, often finding ways to make each other’s day easier. There was a certain camaraderie at this program, and I could tell that the residents were enjoying their learning together. The faculty is friendly and approachable, the benefits are great, and Greenville is an unbelievable community. I cannot imagine a better place to be a resident.
Why I chose Greenville: I chose GHS internal medicine because of the great team environment, supportive attendings and their willingness to teach. We are challenged every day with a variety of medical cases. There is an excellent ancillary staff and administration who is always on top of things. Most importantly, I chose GHS because of the program’s constant effort to improve residents’ learning experiences.
Why I chose Greenville: I chose GHS because it’s a wonderful place with friendly people, amazing staff and overall a great training program. I immediately was drawn to how close knit the residency class is, which really defines the program. We are one big family, always here for one another, working together on our goal of learning, treating, and improving. I love the program and I’m so happy to be a part of such an amazing group.
