Greer Family Medicine Residency Program
We are a new community based program, and will be accepting our first class of six residents in July 2020. Come check us out!
Our program’s mission is to “train competent, caring, community-oriented Family Medicine physicians”. We have a dedicated group of core faculty members, with over 60 years of combined clinical experiences from a variety of backgrounds, and a diverse, community based teaching faculty from a variety of specialties. Residents will train and work in our brand new collaborative-based training environment.
Greer is a city located in the picturesque foothills of the Upstate region of South Carolina. As part of Greenville and Spartanburg counties (pop. 28, 365), Greer is able to offer a small town vibe with big city opportunities. Greer provides the capacity to turn a simple day into an adventure. One can start the day hiking, kayaking, fishing, and continue the day by having a picnic with a scenic view and ending the day with a dinner in downtown Greenville, South Carolina.
Prisma Health Greer Memorial Hospital is an 82-bed facility located on the 135-acre Prisma Health Greer Medical Campus, the hub for Prisma Health’s Eastern Region. The hospital has an Adult Medicine Unit, Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Unit, and Women’s Center with 10 private labor/delivery/recovery rooms. The hospital also has a 25-bed Emergency Department, GI Suite, state-of-the-art Operating Suites, comprehensive lab, and full imaging department. There are a variety of affiliated physician offices (Cardiology, Pulmonology, Neurology, Surgery, ENT, Urology, Orthopedic, Ob/Gyn, and Pediatrics) located on the Greer Medical Campus. The majority of core and elective rotations will take place on the Greer Medical Campus and in the surrounding community. Residents will be required to travel to the Prisma Health Children’s Hospital-Upstate on the Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Medical Campus for part of their Inpatient Pediatric experience.
The Center for Family Medicine-Greer, our clinic site, opened in the Fall of 2018. Our faculty led, high functioning clinic cares for patients of all ages, including obstetrical patients. We utilize team-based approaches to patient care and we perform a wide range of in-office procedures.
The Center for Family Medicine-Greer will join a neurology clinic and psychiatry clinic in a brand new 35,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility on the Prisma Health Greer Medical Campus in the Spring of 2020. Our new clinic will have 24 exam rooms, 2 procedure rooms, a point-of-care lab, access to onsite X-ray services, a conference room, and dedicated resident workspace. The new facility will also house resident on-call suites, a lactation room, and breakroom.
As a new program, we are excited about our innovative, future-oriented curriculum that focuses on training you to be the type of family physician our communities will need both now and in the years to come.
