The Pediatric Residency Program at Prisma Health – Upstate / U of SC School of Medicine Greenville accepts applications exclusively through the Electronic Residency Application Service, also known as ERAS, for the National Residency Matching Program. Students interested in completing a visiting rotation in addition to the residency application process may do so through the AAMC Visiting Student Application Service. For more information on these rotations please see our Visiting Students page. The Department of Pediatrics welcomes all applicants and does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability, veteran status or sexual orientation.
Residency Application Requirements
We review applications received between September 15th – December 31st and will extend interview offers on a rolling basis. We will review an application once we receive the ERAS application form and personal statement, medical school transcript and USMLE or COMLEX scores. We encourage but do not require our osteopathic applicants to submit USMLE transcripts. We require a minimum of three letters of recommendation. We would like letters from individuals who know you well and are in a position to comment on your skills, abilities, accomplishments and suitability for a residency program. We do not require a chair letter. Some applications are put on hold until we receive the Medical Student Performance Evaluation/Dean’s Letter that is transmitted to programs by ERAS beginning on Nov. 1st.
Interview Scheduling and Accommodations
If you are selected to interview, you will receive an email from ERAS with instructions on how to schedule through the Interview Broker program. Our interviews will begin late October and go through the end of January with the exception of the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Our interview days are Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We focus interview days on the residency program. If you have research or subspecialty career interests, please let us know and we will try to match your interview with one of our faculty in that particular field if possible.
After a date is set, you will receive a confirmation letter via email with details of the interview visit (i.e. hotel information, time to arrive for the interview, etc.). We provide one night of hotel accommodations for the evening before the interview day and some of our residents will take the applicant and spouse/guest out to dinner the evening before.
Requirements for International Medical Graduates
Applicants from international medical schools must have graduated within the last 2 years, have USMLE Part 1 and 2 scores of 220 or higher, and have a permanent visa. You must also have experience in the U.S. (rotations, graduate studies, or at least 6 months of clinical training). Observerships do not fulfill this requirement.
