Once the sponsoring department has selected an intern, the sponsoring department will need to notify Bradley Hobbs.
Student Services will then initiate the GHS onboarding process. Due to circumstances outside of our control, onboarding could take two to six weeks. The time frame is heavily dependent upon the interns last TB screening and their last criminal background check.
Note: Students no longer email clearance related documents to GHS Student Services.
Using the department’s internship request form and the student’s internship application, we will create a unique profile for each intern inmyClinicalExchange (mCE). Once the intern’s unique profile has been created, they will begin uploading clearance related documents for review and approval. Students will receive a step-by-step guide to accessing myClinicalExchange as well as weekly notifications of their clearance status. Departments wishing to ascertain the clearance status of their intern may email Bradley Hobbs.
If the onboarding intern has not had a TB reading within the last twelve month period, GHS will require the intern to obtain a two-step reading. The two-step reading can be completed in approximately 10 days but may take up to three weeks depending on the intern’s availability. There are multiple services that will provide TB readings but Student Services will refer interns to their university health center.
Student interns are responsible for the following fees. Unfortunately, we do not allow GHS Departments to cover these fees.
- $0-60 TB reading
- $0-35 Background check
- $15 HealthStream access
- $35 Flu Immunization (when in season)
If the intern or their college or university does not have a background check on file from the preceding 12-month period, GHS will need to complete their own. Conducting a background check through GHS can take up to 10 days. There are multiple services for completing a background check but Student Services will refer interns to SR&I.
Interns should contact their university health center as they have likely already submitted documentation of their immunizations prior to their college enrollment. GHS requires documentation of
- Two-step TB/PPD
- Influenza (October-March)
Interns must complete the modules provided on HealthStream before the start of the internship. GHS Student Services will email the intern their userID and password to access HealthStream. Modules include
- HIPAA Compliance
- Core Regulatory Safety
- Infection Prevention and Control
