The MedEx Academy equips students with the tools they need to make informed career decisions and prepare for the next step in their academic journey. In addition to their experience, students in the program are eligible to receive:
- Academic credit (at associated partner universities)
- Merit-based college scholarships
- Financial assistance/monetary support for the duration of the summer program
- Individualized funds allotted for academic development (g. test prep kits, school supplies, associated materials and equipment)
- Year-round access to mentoring and support services
Building Blocks of MedEx Academy
The MedEx Academy provides robust and integrated teaching and learning experiences for students. The building blocks listed below provide the foundation for students to experience the “real world” of healthcare and understand their future roles as students, patients, employees and social servants.
- Academic Guidance
To develop academic and intellectual skills and begin determining an educational path.
- Career Exploration
To learn about various career opportunities and discuss the steps for entering students’ desired field.
- Clinical Experiences
To explore different aspects of healthcare through shadowing, simulation, classroom and hands-on activities.
- Medical Research
To engage in case studies, publication review and research Goals to better understand modern medicine.
- Patient-Centered Learning
To consider the importance of maintaining a good personal state of health and advance their perception of the patient role.
- Professional Development
To cultivate strong workplace skills, specifically for the healthcare industry.
- Social Consciousness
To discuss strategies for addressing social determinants of health and pursue opportunities to volunteer in the community.
- Team-based Leadership
To engage in activities that build camaraderie and progress students’ ability to interact in a team setting.
