The objective of on-call activities is to provide residents with continuity of patient care experiences throughout a 24-hour period. In-house call is defined as those duty hours beyond the normal work day when residents are required to be immediately available in the hospital.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program has adopted a night float rotation to alleviate traditional call during the work week. This schedule allows for compliance with ACGME Duty Hours Requirements and maximizes time outside the hospital for family, reflection, relaxation and study.
- Friday call runs from 5 p.m. and ends 7 a.m. Saturday.
- Saturday call runs from 7 a.m. until 7 a.m. Sunday.
- Sunday call runs from 7 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
Residents, when on call, are usually on either Friday and Sunday or Saturday. Residents can expect to work every two to three weekends. Interns follow a modified shift schedule in order to maintain compliance with current ACGME Duty Hours requirements.
