All researchers (principal investigators, co-investigators, other research staff, and students) involved in human subject research must complete training before a requested study protocol is approved and/or before research is conducted. This requirement must be accomplished via the CITI Training Course by reviewing the specific institutional instructions and choosing the appropriate Learner Group on the CITI web page.
If you are not registered with CITI, go to the CITI website and click on the “Register” box in the top right of the screen. In the box under the heading, “Select your organization affiliation,” search for “Upstate Affiliate Organization (UAO) dba Greenville Health System”. Once you select that affiliation, the web page will generate a statement with a check box. You will need to check the box next to “I AGREE to the terms of service for accessing CITI Program materials.” After you check that box, the web page will generate another statement that you will need to agree to. You will need to check the box next to “I affirm that I am an affiliate of Upstate Affiliate Organization (UAO) dba Greenville Health System”. Once you check both boxes, the web page will generate a blue box that says, “Continue to create your CITI Program username/password.” Click on that box to complete the steps required to register for your CITI account.
After successful registration, you will be provided a series of enrollment questions to determine which course(s) you need to take. If you have any questions, please contact the IRB office (455-8997) for help. Upon completion of the course(s), learners should print two copies of the completion certificates – one for your personal records and one to be kept at the site as documentation of IRB research ethics and education completion.
Researchers and staff from other institutions should contact the IRB Coordinator(s) at GHS before registering and completing a GHS CITI Training Course.
